Starbucks "One (1) Day Without Disposable Cups (0) on the 10th"
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon]Starbucks Korea announced on the 9th that it will conduct a No Disposable Cup Day campaign in collaboration with the Resource Circulation Society Solidarity to continuously encourage the use of personal reusable cups.
The campaign will take place at all Starbucks stores for one day on the 10th. Among Starbucks Rewards members who use personal cups and receive personal cup discounts or eco-star accumulation benefits, 230 customers will be selected by lottery to receive two tall size free beverage coupons.
Starbucks plans to select a total of 230 customers by multiplying 23, symbolizing the 23rd anniversary of its opening, by 10, representing No (1) Disposable Cup (0) Day. Customers who apply the personal cup benefit using the Starbucks card registered to their account will be automatically entered into the event.
Starbucks has been conducting this campaign on the 10th of every month since 2018.
Currently, Starbucks offers a 400 KRW discount or one eco-star accumulation benefit when using a personal cup. Since January 13 of this year, the discount benefit has been increased from 300 KRW to 400 KRW. After strengthening the personal cup usage benefits, the number of personal cup uses increased by 60% compared to the same period last year over two weeks. Also, based on January of this year, the number of personal cup orders totaled 3.54 million, a 68% increase compared to the same period last year.
The number of personal cup uses has reached 86.21 million over 15 years from 2007, when the system for personal cup benefit tracking began, until last year. When converting the accumulated benefit cases into monetary value, it amounts to approximately 34.2 billion KRW.
