Suwon City to Provide 500,000 Won Emergency Support Fund to Freelancers and Special Employment Workers
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will provide 500,000 KRW of the 'Suwon-type Emergency Disaster Relief Fund' to workers in special employment types and freelancers who are experiencing difficulties due to decreased income from the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. Suwon City has especially relaxed the eligibility criteria.
Accordingly, in addition to the existing eligibility criteria, the payment targets must meet four conditions: ▲ persons registered as residents in Suwon City as of the announcement date ▲ uninsured workers under employment insurance who have worked as special employment type workers or freelancers for more than three months in 2021 ▲ workers with an annual income of 50 million KRW or less in 2020 ▲ persons whose income in December 2021 or January 2022 decreased by 25% or more compared to the past.
Applications can be submitted from the 10th to the 25th of this month by clicking the 'Suwon-type Emergency Disaster Relief Fund Application' banner on the Suwon City website.
The applicants must apply in person, and submitted documents must be scanned or photographed and attached as electronic files.
Special employment type workers refer to "persons who provide labor similarly to employees regardless of contract form but are not subject to the Labor Standards Act, etc.," and freelancers refer to "persons who make contracts on a case-by-case basis for specific situations and provide labor independently based on their own judgment."
The city will finalize the recipients after reviewing the application forms and supporting documents, and will pay 500,000 KRW per person to the applicant's account in their name in February for existing recipients and in March for new recipients.

Yeom Tae-young, Mayor of Suwon City, emphasized, "We decided to provide emergency disaster relief funds, albeit small, to help stabilize the lives of those whose income has decreased more than anyone else due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the vulnerable employment groups," adding, "We will continuously identify and support blind spots in disaster relief so that economic difficulties do not lead to mental distress."
