Gwangju Civic Groups Launch Citizen Coalition for Joint Election Response

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Civic groups in the Gwangju area announced on the 8th that they will form a civic coalition for joint election response ahead of the 2022 presidential and local elections.
The '2022 Presidential and Local Election Gwangju Citizens' Coalition (Preparatory)' will hold its launching ceremony at 11 a.m. on the 10th at the Gwangju NGO Center Citizen Maru and begin full-scale activities.
The launching ceremony will be attended by about 50 organizations that applied to participate, including the Gwangju Citizens' Group Council, Gwangju Jeonnam Women's Organizations Federation, and Gwangju Progressive Coalition member organizations. The ceremony will proceed with introductions of participating organizations, greetings from organization representatives, introduction of major projects, announcement of the launching declaration, and a Q&A session.
The Gwangju Citizens' Coalition will focus on a regional perspective for the upcoming presidential election, proposing the values pursued by civil society as major policy directions for Gwangju to each party, while analyzing and evaluating the regional pledges announced by each party.
For the local elections, the coalition will respond with activities centered on 'breaking the monopoly structure' and 'creating a political environment for regional political development based on democratic diversity.'

A representative of the Gwangju Citizens' Coalition (Preparatory) stated, "We will play a role in guiding each party and candidate participating in this election to build national consensus to resolve the deprivation and inequality felt by citizens, and to present reforms and visions to create a society where common sense prevails."
