[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province is launching a support project to reinforce the safety performance of buildings vulnerable to fire.
According to the Building Management Act, which mandates fire safety performance reinforcement, Seongnam City announced on the 8th that it plans to subsidize up to 26.66 million KRW of the costs incurred for construction such as exterior material replacement and sprinkler installation on a temporary basis until the end of this year.
The city has secured a project budget of 800 million KRW, including national and provincial subsidies. This amount is sufficient to support 48 buildings.
The support targets are buildings of three stories or higher that use combustible exterior materials and lack sprinkler systems, including ▲medical facilities, facilities for vulnerable evacuees such as elderly and children’s centers, and ▲multi-use establishments such as goshiwon, bathhouses, postpartum care centers, and academies.
For multi-use establishments, only buildings under 1,000㎡ with a first-floor pilotis parking structure are eligible.
