Competing against Zhang Yuting (China), Arianna Fontana (Italy), Sofia Prosvirnova (Russian Olympic Committee), and Hanne Desmet (Belgium), Choi Min-jeong maintained 2nd place until the middle of the race but fell without collision with two laps remaining. She slipped while accelerating on the curve track. As a result, South Korea failed to secure a medal in the women's 500m event.
