Daegu City, "Strengthening the Citizen Safety Net"... Citizen Safety Insurance Supports 'Silver Zone Traffic Accident Treatment Costs'
Up to 20 Million Won for Explosions, Fires, and Public Transportation Accidents
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Daegu City has decided to expand the coverage items of the Citizen Safety Insurance to create a more comprehensive safety net for its citizens.
Daegu City announced on the 7th that it renewed the Daegu Citizen Safety Insurance on the 1st by adding coverage for treatment costs related to Silver Zones accidents.
Citizen Safety Insurance automatically enrolls all residents registered in Daegu without any additional insurance premiums or subscription procedures.
It is a system that pays up to 20 million KRW in insurance benefits in case of disability or death caused by various disasters and accidents.
Previously, coverage included only 10 items such as death caused by natural disasters, injury death and disability caused by explosion, fire, or collapse accidents, injury death and disability while using public transportation or chartered buses, injury death and disability from robbery crimes, and treatment costs for injuries from school zone traffic accidents.
This year, by adding the treatment cost coverage for Silver Zone accidents, seniors aged 65 and older who suffer traffic accidents in designated protection zones can receive treatment costs if they are diagnosed with injury grades from 1 to 5.
During the three years since the implementation of Daegu Citizen Safety Insurance, a total of 83 citizens have received insurance benefits amounting to 796 million KRW.
If an accident covered by the insurance occurs, claims can be made within three years from the date of the accident, and benefits can be received regardless of other insurance subscriptions.
Since many citizens were unaware of the Citizen Safety Insurance and thus missed out on benefits, promotional efforts will be strengthened. Daegu City plans to conduct community-based promotions using various media, including offline promotions at local senior welfare centers and senior citizen centers, as well as online promotions through SNS.
