The ‘National University Promotion Project’ is a program to share the resources of national universities with local communities and to nurture outstanding local talents. The Suncheon University Museum provided various experiential education programs last year targeting elementary and middle school students, people with disabilities, foreigners, and general adults.
For local people with disabilities, the program ‘Our Story Dreamed with Hanji Paper’ was operated a total of 11 times last year.
About 250 participants including middle and high school students from Suncheon Seonhye School, members of the Suncheon Palma Disabled Lifelong Education Center, and citizens from Chamsaem Village made hanji paper and had hands-on experience creating traditional crafts using images of the museum’s collections.
The program ‘Riding the Tomb Time Machine GoGo’ for students of Suncheon Regional Children's Centers introduced various cultural heritage sites focusing on tomb relics excavated directly by the Suncheon University Museum in the eastern Jeonnam region, and involved making a tomb time capsule. A total of 16 regional children’s centers participated.
In addition, a convergence arts program integrating VR, dance, and music titled ‘Creative Planning Experience with Cultural Arts Experts at the Museum’ was conducted five times for elementary and middle school students in Suncheon. For local adults, a regular cultural lecture titled ‘The Flower of Humanities, What is Art?’ was held to enhance the cultural and artistic knowledge of local residents.
Furthermore, to celebrate the national holiday Seollal, a traditional culture experience session was held for local foreigners, where they made norigae (traditional ornaments) and bojagi (wrapping cloth), actively promoting traditional culture.
