The number of cases has broken the record for the highest daily count again following the previous day.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 6 p.m. on this day, a total of 10,912 confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported across 17 cities and provinces nationwide.
This is the highest number among the provisional counts as of 6 p.m. It is 247 cases more than the previous record of 10,665 cases reported the day before. Compared to 4,415 cases reported at the same time a week ago on the 23rd, it is 6,497 cases more, and compared to 2,471 cases two weeks ago on the 16th, it is a staggering 8,441 cases more.
Since there is still time until midnight when the count is finalized, the number of new confirmed cases to be announced on the 31st is expected to increase significantly.
New confirmed cases were 6,502 (59.6%) in the metropolitan area and 4,410 (40.4%) in non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, the numbers are: Gyeonggi 3,196, Seoul 2,096, Incheon 1,210, Daegu 978, Busan 770, Gyeongbuk 574, Gwangju 457, Daejeon 308, Gangwon 242, Gyeongnam 206, Ulsan 201, Jeonbuk 195, Chungnam 158, Chungbuk 128, Jeonnam 96, Jeju 67, and Sejong 30. Confirmed cases were reported in all 17 cities and provinces.

Meanwhile, since the Omicron variant became the dominant strain in Korea, the scale of new confirmed cases has continued to increase. Over the past week from the 24th, the daily new confirmed cases were 7,511 → 8,570 → 13,009 → 14,514 → 16,095 → 17,526 → 17,532, averaging about 13,537 cases per day.
