Gwangyang-si Issues Next-Generation Electronic Passports with Enhanced Security and Durability
Photo and Entry Details Laser Engraved to Enhance Security and Durability
Passport Number System Changed, Resident Registration Number Not Included
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do announced that it has been issuing the ‘Next-Generation Electronic Passport’ with enhanced security and durability since December last year.
The next-generation passport changes the material to durable polycarbonate, and the photo and recorded information are laser-engraved to improve security and durability. The passport number system has been changed in the recorded information, and the resident registration number is no longer recorded.
Additionally, the passport cover color has changed (green → navy), the number of visa pages has increased in line with the rising trend of overseas travel, and our cultural heritage is utilized in the design.
These changes aim to strengthen the protection of our citizens’ identity and provide convenience during immigration by proactively responding to advancing forgery and falsification technologies, as expectations for overseas travel rise with the ‘With Corona’ policy.
A city official said, “With the start of issuing the next-generation electronic passport, the security and durability of passports have been significantly enhanced, allowing citizens to receive safe and convenient passport civil service,” and added, “We will continue to strive to meet citizens’ interest in the next-generation passport.”
