[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Son Seon-hee] This year, South Korea's official development assistance (ODA) scale has surpassed 4 trillion won for the first time in history. This signifies South Korea's elevated status as a donor country in the international community.
According to the Office for Government Policy Coordination on the 27th, this year's ODA scale totaled 4.0425 trillion won, an increase of 7.7% compared to last year.
Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum chaired a meeting of the International Development Cooperation Committee at the Government Seoul Office Building in the afternoon. The Office for Government Policy Coordination explained that the committee was held to discuss policies and projects to be promoted this year amid growing demands for South Korea to fulfill international responsibilities befitting its national status, and the emphasized importance of ODA in responding to global issues such as COVID-19 and the climate crisis.
At the meeting, the committee approved the ▲2022 Comprehensive Implementation Plan for International Development Cooperation, which includes this year's ODA policy direction and project plans, and the ▲Science and Technology·ICT ODA Promotion Strategy.
