Yeonggwang Gulbi Industrial Complex Designation Period Extended Until 2023

Yeonggwang County announced on the 25th that through a review requested to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (hereinafter referred to as the Ministry) Regional Specialized Development Special Zone Committee, the period for the 'Yeonggwang Gulbi Industry Special Zone' has been approved for a 2-year extension from 2021 to 2023.

To foster the gulbi industry as a regional strategic industry, the county designated the Gulbi Industry Special Zone in 2009 and has invested a total of 22.8 billion KRW by 2021 to contribute to facility improvements and quality enhancement, including infrastructure related to the gulbi industry.

The main projects include four specialized areas (16 detailed projects) with a total budget of 1.5 billion KRW: ▲ Yeonggwang Gulbi Production Quality Innovation and High Value-added Project ▲ Yeonggwang Gulbi Workforce Support Infrastructure Construction Project ▲ Yeonggwang Gulbi Brand Development and Marketing Innovation Project ▲ Yeonggwang Gulbi Promotion and Tourism Innovation Project.

A county official stated, "Through this extension of the Yeonggwang Gulbi Industry Special Zone period, we expect to greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy by strengthening the Yeonggwang Gulbi brand, creating jobs, and increasing residents' income."

Meanwhile, the Yeonggwang Gulbi Geographical Indication service, which has been underway since last year, is expected to have a significant effect on strengthening the Yeonggwang Gulbi brand and boosting sales by creating synergy with this special zone period extension once the legislative notice is completed and it passes the Cabinet meeting.
