The "Compact Smart Shelter" installed at a village bus stop near Seongdong-gu Office is a model that includes only essential functions such as heating and cooling, wired and wireless phone charging, public WiFi, and remote CCTV monitoring. It is about 41% (5.94㎡) the size of the existing "Seongdong-type Smart Shelter," making it possible to install in smaller spaces.
The "Seongdong-type Smart Shelter" is a futuristic bus stop that integrates cutting-edge Internet of Things (IoT) technology and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with the inherent functions of a bus boarding area. It provides high convenience to public transportation users through features such as real-time bus arrival videos, heating and cooling, and fine dust purification.
Equipped with UV sterilization and disinfection functions, it has shown a continuous increase in users even amid the prolonged COVID-19 situation. In particular, it demonstrates a strong advantage with a surge in users during crisis situations such as cold waves, heavy snow, and heatwaves.
Since its first installation in August 2020, the cumulative number of users of the "Seongdong-type Smart Shelter" has surpassed 1.8 million (1,830,629) as of January 16.
Residents' responses to the "Seongdong-type Smart Shelter" have been positive. In a satisfaction survey conducted last month, 94% of respondents said they were satisfied with its use. Notably, 76% stated that they use it to escape the cold and heat, and the majority expressed the need for installation at all stops, along with specific requests to install smaller-sized shelters suitable for narrow sidewalks.
Based on the high satisfaction and residents' opinions, the district has prepared a compact model of the Seongdong-type Smart Shelter and plans to install 20 units at major stops within the area by April to actively enhance public transportation use and convenience.
