Kia EV6 Named 'Car of the Year' at UK's 2022 What Car Awards
Simultaneous Awarding of 'Electric SUV of the Year' "Recognized for High Single-Charge Driving Range and More"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Kia announced on the 20th (local time) that its first dedicated electric vehicle, the EV6, was selected as 'Car of the Year' and 'Electric Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) of the Year' at the 2022 What Car Awards in the UK.
The What Car Awards is an automobile awards ceremony hosted by the UK automotive magazine What Car, marking its 45th edition this year. What Car is the UK's leading automotive magazine, boasting the highest authority in Europe.
Since the Picanto was selected as 'City Car of the Year' in 2018, Kia has achieved the remarkable feat of winning awards for five consecutive years: ▲2019 Niro EV (Car of the Year), Picanto (City Car of the Year) ▲2020 Picanto (Value Car of the Year) ▲2021 Sorento (Large SUV of the Year). Notably, this is the second time a Kia brand vehicle has been named Car of the Year, following the Niro EV.
The Kia EV6 received high praise for its outstanding single-charge driving range, fast charging capability, and design. Steve Huntingford, editor of What Car, explained the selection background: "The EV6 alleviates consumers' concerns about electric vehicles with charging speeds and driving ranges that competitors cannot match, and by utilizing an electric vehicle-dedicated platform, it enables the production of spacious and practical vehicles."
Song Ho-sung, President of Kia, said, "It is a great honor for the EV6 to win What Car's Car of the Year award, and this award seems to prove how successful our electrification strategy is." He added, "We plan to introduce 11 new electric vehicle models by 2026, and the majority of our global sales will be electrified models."
