Yoon Seok-yeol: "I Have No Intention to Intervene in the By-Election Candidate Nomination... Will Leave It to the Nomination Committee"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, said on the 20th regarding the nomination of National Assembly candidates to be held alongside the presidential election, "I have no intention of directly involving myself in the nomination issue." This response came in relation to People Power Party lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo's demand for strategic nominations in areas such as Jongno-gu, Seoul, as a condition for joining the election campaign headquarters.
After announcing his pledges at the party office on the same day, Yoon responded to reporters' questions about internal discord caused by Hong's nomination proposal by saying, "I have not yet heard that there is any discord," and added, "Such talk could possibly exist."
He continued, "I will form a fair committee and entrust the matter to the committee."
Regarding Hong's proposal, he said, "I have the principle of doing it fairly," and added, "We established the principle that the nomination management committee will operate based on fair standards and methods set by the committee."
When asked about contact with former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, with whom he had met as a competitor in the party primary along with Hong, Yoon said, "It is difficult to comment, but I am continuously trying to communicate."
