Korea National Oil Corporation Sponsors 1st Data Science Competition Hosted by UNIST

The competition was organized by Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) and co-hosted by Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
From October to December last year, during the three-month competition, the Oil Corporation provided field data from oil development projects to help participating students cultivate problem-solving skills using data science techniques.
A total of 144 students from 38 teams participated in the competition, analyzing and proposing optimization of tight gas production and data characteristics using various data science methods.
Twelve teams that passed the preliminary round competed in the finals, and the President's Prize of Korea National Oil Corporation was awarded to Opteamus from KAIST in a non-face-to-face video conference.
The technical staff of the Oil Corporation created an excellent example of industry-academia cooperation through various Q&A sessions with students during the competition period.

Korea National Oil Corporation plans to expand industry-academia cooperation activities by sponsoring data-driven competitions to enhance understanding of the corporation's projects and collect diverse and innovative external ideas to reflect in its business.
