Gyeonggi-do Double-Decker Bus Overall Satisfaction 'Rises'... Seat Comfort Improvement Remains a 'Task'
'Driving and Safety' Score Highest at 83... 'Seat Convenience' in the 60s
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The overall satisfaction with double-decker buses in Gyeonggi-do has been steadily increasing, according to a recent survey.
Gyeonggi-do announced on the 18th that "the '2021 Gyeonggi-do Double-Decker Bus User Satisfaction Survey' showed a score of 77, which is 2 points higher than the previous survey conducted in 2019."
The survey was commissioned by the province to Korea Research Co., Ltd. and conducted over nine days from November 23 to December 3 last year. It targeted 534 double-decker bus users aged 18 and older in Gyeonggi-do, using a one-on-one individual interview survey method.
The results showed that the 'overall satisfaction' score was 77, continuously rising from 75 in 2019 and 72 in 2017. Satisfaction scores increased in all four major categories: safety, comfort of use, driver service, and others compared to the previous survey.
Notably, 86% of respondents said that double-decker buses helped alleviate inconveniences during commuting hours, and 95% expressed their intention to continue using them in the future, indicating a high overall satisfaction level.
The comprehensive scores by category were ▲Driving and Safety (83 points) ▲Overall Satisfaction (77 points) ▲Driver and Additional Services (76 points) ▲Interior Facilities and Comfort of Use (73 points).
The highest satisfaction was in the 'Driving and Safety' category, with detailed items such as driving speed, safety during door opening and closing, and sense of operational safety all scoring above 81 points, suggesting that users perceive double-decker bus operations as relatively safe.
On the other hand, 'Seat Spacing Adequacy' and 'Seat Comfort' scored 61 and 65 points respectively, indicating a perceived need for improvement in seat convenience.
In response, a provincial official explained, "Double-decker buses are designed to transport many passengers at once, so the seat spacing tends to be somewhat narrow. However, the double-decker electric buses introduced since last year have slightly wider seat spacing, so satisfaction is expected to increase in the future."
Kang Hyun-do, Director of the Transportation Bureau, said, "User satisfaction has been rising steadily due to continuous improvements since the introduction of double-decker buses. We will continue to deploy double-decker buses to do our best to alleviate inconveniences for residents during commuting hours."
