[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] The last Lunar New Year gift during President Moon Jae-in's term consists of regional specialties such as Munbaeju (or honey) from Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, plum extract from Gwangyang, Jeollanam-do, omija syrup from Mungyeong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and chestnuts from Buyeo, Chungcheongnam-do.
On the 18th, the Blue House announced, "President Moon and the First Lady will send gifts to about 15,000 people, including those dedicated to the nation and society in response to COVID-19 and socially vulnerable groups, so they can have a warm Lunar New Year holiday."
President Moon, who is set to retire in May, said this gift will be his last holiday present. He also plans to send a Lunar New Year greeting card with the message, "Until I return to the people in the last year of my term, I will cherish each day and finish the state affairs with care," along with the gift.
The Lunar New Year gifts will be delivered to medical staff on the COVID-19 frontlines, workers involved in vaccination efforts, social welfare workers, elders from various fields, national merit recipients, and socially vulnerable groups.
Meanwhile, Presidential Chief of Staff Yoo Young-min and National Security Office Director Suh Hoon also plan to send Lunar New Year gifts to small and medium-sized business owners struggling with sales due to COVID-19, workers engaged in winter fieldwork, and those cooperating with state affairs to promote the consumption of agricultural, livestock, and fishery products.
