LG Electronics Union Obtains UN 'Special Consultative Status'... "Enhancing Influence in the International Community"
The First Domestic Independent Union... Introducing USR Activities and Contributing to the Spread of a Healthy Labor Culture
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hye-young] The LG Electronics Labor Union announced on the 18th that it has obtained 'Special Consultative Status' from the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Council. Among domestic unit labor unions, LG Electronics Labor Union is the first to acquire this consultative status.
The UN Economic and Social Council's 'Consultative Status' is a certification system that allows non-profit organizations to cooperate with the UN and participate in its activities. It is divided into 'General Consultative Status,' 'Special Consultative Status,' and 'Roster Consultative Status.'
'Special Consultative Status' is granted to organizations with expertise in specific areas within the activities of the UN Economic and Social Council. Going forward, the LG Electronics Labor Union will participate in meetings and events hosted or organized by the UN Economic and Social Council and its subsidiary bodies to present their opinions.
Based on this consultative status, the LG Electronics Labor Union plans to introduce 'Union Social Responsibility' (USR) activities to the international community and contribute to spreading a healthy labor culture. Additionally, it aims to enhance brand value by jointly practicing LG Electronics' ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management.
In January 2010, the LG Electronics Labor Union became the first domestic company to declare the USR Charter and has been engaged in activities such as supporting Ethiopian war veterans and overseas relief efforts. The union emphasizes that labor unions should not only enhance the rights and interests of their members but also take responsibility as members of society by showing interest in economic, social, and environmental issues.
