People Power Party National Security Special Committee Honam Headquarters Launches... Candidate Yoon Presents Defense Policy
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The People Power Party's National Security Special Committee Honam Headquarters officially launched on the 17th and began full-scale activities.
The National Security Special Committee Honam Headquarters held its first meeting at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, where it explained candidate Yoon Seok-yeol's defense policy and pledged to win the presidential election.
The Honam Headquarters includes 30 retired generals such as retired Army Generals Park Seong-gyu and Kim Geun-tae, retired Army Lieutenant Generals Lee Jong-seop and Lim Guk-seon, and retired Army Brigadier General Kim Jeong-hoon; about 100 retired field-grade officers; and about 60 retired company-grade officers.
The newly launched National Security Special Committee Honam Headquarters is composed of retired generals and field- and company-grade officers with expertise in defense and security, as well as university professors. It plans to support candidate Yoon Seok-yeol's security and defense policies in this presidential election.
The People Power Party Honam Headquarters presented the following defense policies to candidate Yoon through a briefing session: ▲ fostering a strong military with artificial intelligence (AI) science and technology ▲ strengthening the Korea-US alliance and seeking practical responses to North Korea's nuclear and missile threats ▲ realizing a country where those who sacrificed for the nation do not feel anger ▲ establishing a military system suitable for future generations ▲ constructing a civilian-military coexistence complex town and contributing to balanced national development.
Candidate Yoon said in a congratulatory message, "I will do my best to create a Republic of Korea where the people can feel secure through a strong national defense."
Retired Army General Kim Geun-tae emphasized, "Defense is like the lifeblood of the Republic of Korea. Defense is currently precarious and missing," adding, "The next government must create an opportunity to revive national defense."
Co-Head Lim Guk-seon said, "The Honam Headquarters will take the lead in implementing candidate Yoon's defense policies," and added, "We will actively support Yoon's confident diplomacy and strong security policies."

Co-Head Kim Jeong-hoon stated, "National security must follow one path regardless of conservative or progressive views. Currently, the Republic of Korea needs a strong defense prioritizing the safety of its people amid the North Korean nuclear threat," and added, "The upcoming March 9 presidential election must restore the lost national defense."
