Fencing Powerhouse Jinju Jeil Middle School Gets Its Own Dedicated Stadium!
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Finally, a fencing stadium has been established at Jinju Jeil Middle School in Gyeongnam, which has nurtured national fencing heroes.
The opening ceremony of the Jinju Jeil Middle School fencing stadium, held on the 14th, was attended by Park Jonghun, Superintendent of Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education, Shin Jongwoo, Deputy Mayor of Jinju, sports officials, and school representatives.
The stadium, completed on December 22 last year, was built with a total project cost of approximately 3.22 billion KRW, featuring parking lots on the 1st and 2nd floors and a fencing hall on the 3rd floor, covering a total area of 1,742㎡.
The Jinju Jeil Middle School fencing team, founded in 2006, is a prestigious fencing school that has produced Olympic medalist Park Sangyoung, current national representative Jeong Jaewon, and Jeong Seyoon of the Gyeongnam Sports Council, but had been training in a general gymnasium due to the lack of a dedicated stadium.
Currently, 10 students are active: 5 in 1st grade, 2 in 2nd grade, and 3 in 3rd grade. They won a gold medal at the 48th National Youth Sports Festival, a bronze medal at the 50th National Youth Sports Festival, and last year achieved 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals at the National Fencing Competition.
The fencing team stated that the dedicated fencing stadium will serve as a cradle for the dreams and passion of Gyeongnam’s fencing prodigies, establishing a foundation for athlete development.
Superintendent Park Jonghun said, “I hope that new fencing heroes who will move the hearts of the Korean people will emerge by honing their skills in the dedicated fencing stadium.”
