The Democratic Party Resolves to Merge with the Open Democratic Party
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party of Korea held a Central Committee meeting on the 12th and resolved to merge with the Open Democratic Party.
On that day, the Democratic Party's Central Committee conducted an online vote on the merger resolution with the Open Democratic Party from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and announced that out of 527 central committee members, 491 voted in favor and 36 opposed, passing the resolution.
After the vote ended, Central Committee Chairperson Byun Jae-il announced, "Out of a total of 671 central committee members, 78.54% participated in the vote."
Previously, the Democratic Party approved the merger resolution with an 83% approval rate in a party member vote, and the Open Democratic Party also approved the merger resolution with a 72% approval rate in a party member vote conducted at the end of last year. With this, the merger process between the two parties has been virtually completed.

The two parties plan to hold a joint meeting of the merger task force (Supreme Council) on the 14th to discuss follow-up measures related to the integration and to declare the final unification.
