Last Year, Semiconductor Cost Share in Electronics at 33%... "Record High Surpassing 2018"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] The proportion of semiconductor components in electronic products worldwide reached a record high of 33% last year. As electronic devices become more advanced, the importance of semiconductors is rapidly increasing, surpassing the supercycle peak of 2018.
According to market research firm IC Insights on the 12th, the share of semiconductor components in the overall electronic products market last year was 33.2%, an increase of 3.3 percentage points compared to 2020. This exceeded the previous record of 31.1% in 2018 and nearly doubled compared to 2001, twenty years ago.
The reason for the growing share of semiconductor components in the electronic products market is attributed to the advancement of various electronic devices, including home appliances, which require a greater quantity and variety of semiconductor functions. Representative examples include power semiconductors, microcontroller units (MCUs), and display driver ICs (DDIs) used in TVs.
