Daegum Orders Formation of Joint Investigation Team for 'Gwangju New Apartment Collapse Accident' "Thorough Investigation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The prosecution has decided to form a joint investigation team with the police and other agencies to determine the cause of the building exterior collapse accident at the apartment construction site in Hwajeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju.
On the 12th, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office instructed the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office to "thoroughly investigate by forming a joint investigation team centered on the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office, Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency, and Gwangju Regional Employment and Labor Office."
A representative from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office explained, "The joint investigation team will analyze the cause of the accident and strictly respond by identifying those responsible for the occurrence of the serious disaster."
Additionally, they added, "Ahead of the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act (scheduled for the 27th of this month), we will do our best to achieve the goals of preventing public safety accidents and recurrence caused by serious disasters through the establishment of a cooperative system among related agencies."

At around 3:46 p.m. the previous day, at the Hwajeong Hyundai I-Park construction site in Hwajeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, the exterior walls and internal structures from the 28th to 34th floors collapsed during concrete pouring, causing six workers to go missing. Two other workers were trapped in a roadside container after debris fell on them but were rescued, and one worker was hit by debris while working on the first floor and was transported to the hospital.
