SPC Group participated in research and development to optimize bakery products using the ‘Vitaberry’ variety grown by young farmers in Nonsan, and launched related new products to support market expansion and profit growth. Through this, the group plans to help create a virtuous cycle where farms reinvest in expanding the cultivation of new varieties and improving quality. Since February last year, the group has been conducting the ‘ESG Happiness Win-Win Project’ with Nonsan City.
The newly launched cake product through Paris Baguette, ‘Vitaberry Strawberry Fraisier,’ features Nonsan strawberries and custard cheese cream between the layers, topped with Vitaberry strawberries. Through this new product launch, SPC Group plans to purchase 80 tons of strawberries grown by Nonsan farms, including Vitaberry.
Vitaberry is a new variety developed in 2019 by the Strawberry Research Institute of Chungcheongnam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services for export purposes. It is characterized by high fruit hardness, aroma, sugar content, and vitamin C content. SPC Group’s Innovation Lab has been collaborating with the Chungnam Strawberry Research Institute and Nonsan City since January 2019 to develop Vitaberry into a variety optimized for bakery products.
Vitaberry is mainly cultivated by young farmers in Nonsan City. Amid growing concerns over the continuous decline of the domestic farming population and the aging of farmers, fostering young farmers has emerged as a solution to revitalize rural areas. The young farmers cultivating Vitaberry were also appointed as promotional models for the new Paris Baguette product.
