North Korea's 'Beijing Absence'... Ministry of Unification Says "Will Not Prejudge"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] North Korea has officially sent a letter to China notifying its non-participation in the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics, while our government stated that it "will not prejudge" North Korea's intentions.
On the 7th, Cha Deok-cheol, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Unification, said at a regular briefing in response to related questions, "Our basic stance remains unchanged, hoping that the Beijing Olympics will serve as an opportunity to contribute to peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia and the world."
On the same day, Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the Workers' Party of Korea, reported, "The Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea sent a letter to the Olympic Committee of the People's Republic of China, the Organizing Committee of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games, and the General Administration of Sport of China."
