Accelerating Local Water Quality Improvement through Sewerage Maintenance Project in Gyeongbuk Rural Fishing Villages
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongsangbuk-do has secured 34.5 billion KRW in national funds this year to implement the rural village sewage system improvement project.
The province requested an increase in the budget from the National Assembly and central government ministries, resulting in an additional 7.5 billion KRW over the initially allocated government budget of 27 billion KRW for this year.
The rural village sewage system improvement project targets village-level sewage treatment areas with treatment facility capacities of less than 500 tons per day, supporting 70% of the costs with national funds.
Due to local financial conditions, securing national funds is essential; however, in the Gyeongbuk region, the geographical characteristics include many rural areas and scattered villages, making it difficult to establish basic plans for sewage treatment facility installation and to secure related national budget.
The province is currently implementing the project in 57 locations across 20 cities and counties with a total project cost of 479.8 billion KRW. This year, including the national funds increased by 27.8% to 34.5 billion KRW, a total of 50.4 billion KRW will be invested.
Major new projects include the rural village sewage system improvement projects in Chung-hyo and Yongsan, upstream dam areas in Jayang-myeon, Yeongcheon, and Namdae-ri in Buseok-myeon at the foot of Sobaeksan Mountain in Yeongju.
