On the 4th, Jinju Mayor Cho Gyu-il stated in a briefing, “This regional economic revitalization measure is an additional city-level support to complement the secondary damage industries that received relatively little government disaster relief funds or were left in blind spots due to COVID-19.”
He added, “We will promote the 6th regional economic revitalization measures to help restore the daily lives of struggling small business owners, SMEs, workers in transportation, culture and arts, and agriculture sectors, and to expand various support projects so that the regional economy can regain vitality.”
The main contents of this measure include 4.8 billion KRW for Jinju-type emergency living stabilization funds, 3.9 billion KRW for providing 1,000 Jinju-type public jobs responding to COVID-19, 14 billion KRW for six projects to revitalize SMEs and small business owners, 2.7 billion KRW for expanding two projects in culture, arts, and agriculture sectors, and 900 million KRW for four projects supporting phased daily recovery, totaling a budget of 26.3 billion KRW.
The Jinju-type emergency living stabilization fund targets 111 travel businesses and amusement facilities (kids cafes, rail bikes) that suffered long-term damage due to the escalation of social distancing to level 3 administrative orders in July last year to block the spread of COVID-19 but did not receive government support, providing 1 million KRW per business.
A total of 1,037 people, including 182 charter bus drivers whose sales drastically decreased due to the reduction and restriction of various events and gatherings, and 855 taxi drivers who lost income due to fewer passengers amid economic downturn and did not receive the government’s quarantine support funds, will receive 1 million KRW each, totaling 1.037 billion KRW.
A total of 615 local cultural and artistic workers and 135 cultural and artistic organizations, who have suffered long-term difficulties due to the reduction and cancellation of cultural and artistic events, will receive 1 million KRW each, totaling 750 million KRW.
Additionally, 244 street vendors who have only received government support once so far will receive 1 million KRW each, totaling 244 million KRW.
In particular, to provide economic stability and jobs for vulnerable employment groups such as those who have closed or suspended businesses, the unemployed, and young job seekers struggling to find employment due to the prolonged COVID-19 economic downturn, Jinju-type public jobs will be increased from about 200 before COVID-19 to about 1,000, with an investment of 3.9 billion KRW, and will be provided from the end of January to April.
The city plans to accept applications for the 6th Jinju-type emergency living stabilization fund from the 10th to the 26th, make the first payment around the 21st, and the second payment around the 28th.
