"If You Pay the Repair Cost, I'll Fix It and Move In" ... 60s Man Arrested for Defrauding Landlords Nationwide
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, trainee reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 4th that they have arrested a man in his 60s, A (male), who traveled nationwide deceiving landlords to obtain money.
According to the police, Mr. A targeted landlords by looking at advertisements seeking tenants in lifestyle magazines or on street bulletin boards.
Mr. A pretended to be interested in moving in after viewing the property, then deceived landlords by saying there were repairs needed, such as to the toilet, and that he would fix them himself if they paid for the repair costs, promising to sign the contract afterward.
From December 2018 to October 2021, Mr. A deceived 26 people, including a woman in her 70s, Ms. B, collecting a total of 2.99 million won, ranging from a minimum of 20,000 won to a maximum of 400,000 won.
The victims were mostly elderly, including 12 people in their 80s, 12 in their 70s, and 2 in their 60s, mostly low-income citizens.
