Duksung Women's University Appoints First Alumna President... Professor Kim Geon-hee Named New President
First Alumni President Appointed Since Founding
Joined Duksung Women's University as Professor in 1993
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Professor Kim Geon-hee, an alumna majoring in Food and Nutrition, has been appointed as the new president of Duksung Women's University.
Duksung Women's University announced on the 31st of last month that the Duksung Foundation appointed Professor Kim as the 12th president. Her term is from the 20th of this month to January 19, 2026, lasting four years.
Duksung Women's University held a presidential election to select the new president. The voter participation rates were 70.5% for professors, 13.5% for staff, 12.5% for students, and 3.5% for alumni.
Over two days starting on the 14th, voting was conducted among five candidates. Since no candidate received a majority of the converted votes, a runoff election was held from the 21st, where the new president Kim won with 57.98% of the votes.
President Kim graduated from the Department of Food and Nutrition at Duksung Women's University, earned a master's degree from the same university's graduate school, and obtained a doctorate from the University of New South Wales in Australia.
She joined Duksung Women's University in 1993 and has served as Director of the Central Laboratory Management Office, Director of the Plant Resources Research Institute, Director of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, Director of the Gifted Education Center, Dean of the College of Natural Sciences, and Dean of the College of Science and Technology.

President Kim has also served as president of the National University Food and Nutrition Professors Association, president of the Korean Society of Food Hygiene and Safety, vice president of the East Asian Food Culture Society, the Korean Society of Food Science and Technology, and the Korean Society of Food Storage and Distribution. She currently holds positions such as vice president of the Korean Society of Marine Biotechnology, president of the Seoul Nutrition Society, president of the Korean Food Culture Society, and director of the Korean Nutrition Education and Evaluation Institute.
