Ministry of Justice Appoints Lawyer Wi Eun-jin as Human Rights Bureau Chief Vacancy
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist] Attorney Wi Eun-jin (50, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 31) has been appointed as the Director of the Human Rights Bureau at the Ministry of Justice, which was previously vacant.
The Ministry of Justice announced on the 2nd that Attorney Wi was appointed as the Director of the Human Rights Bureau effective from the 3rd.
Attorney Wi, originally from Boseong, Jeollanam-do, graduated from Seoul Mirim Girls' High School and Ewha Womans University with a degree in Statistics, and passed the 41st Judicial Examination in 1999.
After completing the Judicial Research and Training Institute, she worked at law firms including Best Law Firm, GL Law Firm, and Cheongdam Law Firm, and has been practicing as an attorney at Min Law Firm since 2013.
Attorney Wi has served as ▲ Member of the Human Rights Committee of the Korean Bar Association (2009) ▲ Member of the Seoul Metropolitan Government Legal and Medical Professional Support Group (2013) ▲ Member of the Police Agency Human Rights Violation Incident Investigation Committee (2017) ▲ Member of the Multicultural Family Policy Committee under the Prime Minister (2018) ▲ Member of the Seoul Citizens' Human Rights Violation Relief Committee (2021).
The Ministry of Justice stated that Attorney Wi has been actively engaged in human rights legal work in various fields, including prevention of violence against women and victim support, protection of human rights for migrant foreigners and multicultural families, and relief activities for citizens' human rights violations during her career as an attorney.
The Ministry of Justice said, "With this appointment, we expect the new Director of the Human Rights Bureau to focus her capabilities on human rights-friendly law enforcement and institutional establishment based on the rich experience and expertise accumulated through various field activities, significantly contributing to the improvement of the practical level of human rights protection for the public."

The position of Director of the Human Rights Bureau became vacant last August when the previous director, Lee Sang-gap (class 28), moved to the position of Legal Affairs Director at the Ministry of Justice after serving for one year.
