Daegum, 'Gangryeoktong' Cheon Gi-hong Prosecutor Certified as 'Level 1 Certified Specialist Prosecutor'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Cheon Ki-hong, head of the Anti-Corruption and Violent Crime Cooperation Division at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Judicial Research and Training Institute class 32), has been selected as a 'Level 1 Certified Specialist Prosecutor.'
The Supreme Prosecutors' Office announced on the 22nd that through the 9th Certified Specialist Prosecutor Certification Review Committee, one Black Belt (Level 1) and 24 Blue Belts (Level 2) were certified.
Chief Prosecutor Cheon became the seventh Black Belt certified specialist prosecutor. He is regarded as a leading expert in the violent crime field within the prosecution. He has investigated several dedicated cases, including the '3rd Generation Organized Crime Group Case' that disrupted the financial market, high-interest loan businesses operated by organized crime groups, and illegal debt collection cases. He has also contributed to sharing know-how by authoring and supervising works such as the 'Violent Crime Group Commentary,' 'Practical Investigation of Violent Crimes,' and 'Practical Investigation of Voice Phishing Crimes.'
The Supreme Prosecutors' Office explained, "Chief Prosecutor Cheon was highly evaluated for his continuous efforts to enhance expertise in the field even after being selected as a Level 2 Blue Belt in the first review."
The Black Belt qualification is awarded only to prosecutors recognized for the highest level of expertise in various fields such as investigations. Before Chief Prosecutor Cheon, from 2013 until last April, six individuals were certified as Black Belts through eight certification reviews in the fields of ▲Economics (embezzlement, breach of trust, etc.) ▲Sex-related crimes ▲Securities and finance ▲Victim protection ▲Legal affairs and legislation ▲Litigation, one person each.
Level 2 Certified Specialist Prosecutors, called Blue Belts, have previously been certified 218 times, and in the 9th review, 24 individuals from 20 fields were newly added.
Prosecutor Lee Hwan-woo of Jeju District Prosecutors' Office (class 39, violent crime field), who was the lead prosecutor in the so-called 'Go Yoo-jeong case' where a wife killed her husband in Jeju Island, and the over 20-year-old unsolved 'Jeju Lawyer Murder Case,' handled investigation and trial. Prosecutor Kim Jung-hwa of Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office (class 37, sex-related crime field), who was in charge of the 'Jung-in case' and a dating violence case in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, and Prosecutor Oh Mi-kyung (class 35, trial field), who participated in writing the 'Korean Jury Selection Manual,' were also selected.

Certified Public Accountant Hong Min-yu of Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (1st Bar Exam) was recognized for expertise in the tax field, and Prosecutor Jo Ah-ra of Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office (class 38) was selected as a Blue Belt for her outstanding work in investigations related to copyrights in the intellectual property field.
