GS Caltex Demonstrates Drone Delivery at Korea Drone Expo with Hanbit Drone
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] GS Caltex will showcase a drone delivery demonstration at the "Korea Drone Expo" held at Yeouido Park from the 16th to the 18th.
GS Caltex announced on the 17th that it conducted a demonstration of delivering kerosene by drone in collaboration with the drone company "Hanbit Drone" at the Korea Drone Expo. A drone loaded kerosene at the GS Caltex Yeouido gas station, flew approximately 1 km to Yeouido Park, and the kerosene was taken out from the drone’s cargo compartment and poured into a heater on site.
The Korea Drone Expo is an event hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and organized by the Aviation Safety Technology Institute. GS Caltex’s drone delivery demonstration began in April last year at the Incheon Logistics Center. Before an oil tanker docks at a maritime pier to unload fuel, fuel samples are transported by a small vessel for product verification. Replacing this with drone delivery can reduce time and costs.
GS Caltex, together with Hanbit Drone, was selected as a consortium member for the "K-Drone System" demonstration support project led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Aviation Safety Technology Institute. They are conducting demonstration tests using drones, including monthly fuel sample deliveries, and are striving for commercialization.
Meanwhile, GS Caltex conducted a drone delivery demonstration of convenience store products in Jeju Island in June last year, and in October last year, held a delivery demonstration event combining drones and robots on Jangdo Island in Yeosu. They plan to continue drone delivery demonstration tests based at gas stations.
