Muju-gun, Muju-eup Urban Regeneration New Deal Project Final Selection
Creating a 'Lifetime·ing Happy 100-Year Healthy City' from Next Year to 2025
[Muju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Muju County announced on the 16th that the Muju-eup Urban Regeneration New Deal Project was finally selected through the deliberation of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Urban Regeneration Special Committee.
The urban regeneration New Deal project in Muju-eup is named "Saengae·ing Happy 100-Year Healthy City Muju" and aims to promote △ Saengae·ing Hub Formation △ Saengae·ing Customized Housing Regeneration △ Saengae·ing Commercial District Foundation Development.
In particular, this project will be promoted with a total budget of 17.7 billion KRW (10 billion KRW from the national government, 1.7 billion KRW from the provincial government, and 5 billion KRW from the county), linked with the village maintenance-type public housing project, and implemented through a general project management method involving the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH).
For Saengae·ing Hub Formation, a three-story Living Culture Harmony Center and a Bandi Forest considering the surrounding environment will be created on the site of the Muju KBS relay station, which the county purchased last year, as a space for youth and residents.
Additionally, in the steep slope area of District 2 in the town, a five-story senior-friendly community center will be established to utilize the space, which was previously cut off by retaining wall boundaries, as a convenient movement path for residents and a community hub for the elderly.
Saengae·ing Customized Housing Regeneration involves renovating 40 old houses over 20 years old to create a home repair training center and village enterprise space, thereby improving residential conditions.
Finally, for Saengae·ing Commercial District Foundation Development, a pilot commercial specialized pedestrian space will be created to revitalize the commercial district by attracting pedestrian traffic, laying the foundation for commercial recovery and population inflow.
Thus, Muju County has laid the groundwork to establish an urban appearance by investing a total of 48.1 billion KRW in the entire urban regeneration sector, including 400 million KRW for the Muju-eup and Seolcheon-myeon urban regeneration preliminary project in 2018, 14.8 billion KRW for the Muju-eup and Mupung-myeon urban regeneration recognized project in 2020, 200 million KRW for the Seolcheon-myeon urban regeneration preliminary project, and 32.7 billion KRW for the Seolcheon-myeon and Muju-eup urban regeneration New Deal project in 2021.
Above all, with about 17.7 billion KRW to be concentrated in Muju-eup and about 15 billion KRW in Seolcheon-myeon from next year through the urban regeneration New Deal project, it is expected to establish regional identity through the improvement of declining commercial districts and expansion of community-based living infrastructure, as well as to revitalize the local economy and improve residents' quality of life.
In addition, Muju-eup plans to promote the project in connection with other government-linked projects such as the Muju-eup Rural Hub Activation Project, Bandi Happiness Nuri Platform Construction Project, Muju Firefly Market Specialized Market Development Project, and the support project for the removal of old slate roofs.
Hwang In-hong, the governor of Muju County, said, "Through the urban regeneration New Deal project, we have laid the foundation for strengthening Muju-eup’s position as a 100-year healthy city, creating central hub facilities for residents, and establishing an economic base that can revitalize Muju County through various resident capacity-building projects. We will work together with residents to create 'a livable Muju, a Muju where people want to live.'"
