<산업부 2차관> "Stable Supply of Natural Gas Needed for Carbon Neutrality"
Vice Minister Park Ki-young Attends 'Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Direct Import Association Inauguration Ceremony'
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The government has urged the domestic natural gas industry to play a role in achieving carbon neutrality.
On the 15th, Park Ki-young, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, attended the 'Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Direct Import Association Launch Ceremony' and stated, "In the process of implementing carbon neutrality and restructuring the global energy supply chain, the supply and demand of energy sources such as natural gas are becoming increasingly important, and the role of private natural gas direct importers is more crucial than ever."
He emphasized, "To smoothly implement carbon neutrality, it is necessary to secure natural gas stably through diversification of supply sources and various cooperation such as volume exchanges with existing operators like Korea Gas Corporation. Efforts should be made to discover various new businesses utilizing natural gas, including early establishment of the hydrogen economy through production of extracted hydrogen and blue hydrogen before the spread of green hydrogen, as well as LNG bunkering and LNG cold energy businesses."
The LNG Direct Import Association was established in June by private natural gas direct importers such as SK E&S, GS Energy, and POSCO Energy to contribute to the fostering and promotion of the natural gas direct import industry.
Following the launch ceremony, Jang Wooseok, Head of the Innovation Growth Research Office at Hyundai Research Institute, presented 'Suggestions for the Development of the Natural Gas Industry,' and Kim Seongbok, Head of the Hydrogen Convergence Alliance Promotion Group, explained 'The Role of the Hydrogen Economy and Natural Gas in Achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050.'
