Sangju City Decides to Suspend Emergency Water Supply Facilities for Civil Defense
Concerns Over Time Required for Repairs During Pipe Freezing, Suspension Unavoidable
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Sangju City in Gyeongbuk Province will shut off the water supply to the civil defense emergency water supply facilities from December 13th this year to March 13th next year to prevent freezing damage during the winter season.
The city made this decision to prevent freezing damage after the Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that temperatures will drop sharply starting from the 13th of this month, bringing in severe cold weather.
Use of the civil defense emergency water supply facilities at three locations, including Citizen Stadium, will be suspended, but the emergency water supply facility at Bukcheon Sports Park will remain available.
The civil defense emergency water supply facilities were installed to provide a stable minimum supply of drinking and domestic water in emergencies or disasters such as war, floods, or destruction of water sources when the existing water supply is interrupted.

Jang Dongwook, Director of the Safety and Disaster Division, said, “If the facilities freeze and burst, repair work and water quality inspections will be required, which will take more time before they can be used again. We will ensure that safe water is supplied when the facilities are used again next year.”
