Jeonju City Begins Construction of 'Jeonju Hanok Village Ssangsaem Well Restoration and Plaza Development Project'... Completion Scheduled for April Next Year
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 2nd that it will commence the "Jeonju Hanok Village Ssangsaem Well Restoration and Plaza Construction Project," investing a total project cost of 500 million KRW by April next year.
This project, carried out near Omokdae to create a sustainable premium Hanok Village, involves restoring the Ssangsaem Well, which disappeared due to a past road construction project, and creating a plaza where citizens and tourists can relax and enjoy culture.
Jeonju City has completed the district unit plan decision (change) for the Jeonju traditional culture zone and the basic and detailed design services.
According to the design, two wells, including a circular well and a square well, will be restored in the area of 49-6, Gyodong, Wansan-gu, and a 700㎡ plaza will also be created.
A small stream and an artificial waterfall will be constructed nearby, and 47 large trees, 155 shrubs, and 500 herbaceous plants will be planted.
Ssangsaem, known to be located from the famous mural village Jaman to Jeonju Hyanggyo direction, was called Ssangsaem because the upper and lower wells were side by side.
Jeonju City expects that once the Ssangsaem Well is restored, it will establish the identity of Jeonju Hanok Village, which aims to be the most Korean-style tourist destination, and expand the scope of Hanok Village tourists.
