Hapcheon-gun Installs Pedestrian-Activated Traffic Signals
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 30th that it will install pedestrian-activated traffic lights to facilitate smooth vehicle traffic and ensure pedestrian safety.
Pedestrian-activated traffic lights are signals where pedestrians press a button themselves to request a walk signal. They are planned to be installed at the 'Guncheong Rotary Crosswalk' and the 'Back Gate Crosswalk of Hapcheon Elementary School.'
Currently, Hapcheon-gun has installed and operates traffic lights on the road in front of the Guncheong rotary intersection to protect pedestrians and children. However, pedestrian traffic significantly decreases after school commuting hours, causing continuous complaints about vehicle flow disruption due to unnecessary signal waiting in this section.
When pedestrian-activated traffic lights are installed, continuous vehicle traffic is possible if there is no pedestrian signal request. From 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., the current signal system will be maintained to protect children during school commuting hours.
