'Election Law Violation and Defamation of the President' Charges Against Jeon Gwang-hoon Result in Acquittal in Second Trial

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Jeon Gwang-hoon, pastor of Sarang Jeil Church, who was prosecuted for pre-election campaigning at rallies ahead of last year's April 15 general election, was acquitted again in the second trial.
On the afternoon of the 24th, the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 6-2 (Presiding Judges Jeong Chong-ryeong, Jo Eun-rae, Kim Yong-ha) acquitted Pastor Jeon of all charges of violating the Public Official Election Act and defamation in the appeal trial sentencing.
Previously, Pastor Jeon was prosecuted on charges of pre-election campaigning (violation of the Public Official Election Act) at rallies in Gwanghwamun Square ahead of the 21st general election last year, and defamation against President Moon Jae-in.

The first trial acquitted Pastor Jeon, stating, "At the time of the defendant's remarks, the general election candidates had not yet been decided," and "He did not specifically appeal for support to any political party."
