[Box Office] Kind Comedy Worked, 'Jangreuman Romance' Tops Weekend Charts

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Actor Jo Eunji's first feature-length commercial directorial work, "Genre Only Romance," topped the weekend box office.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system, "Genre Only Romance" attracted 233,081 viewers over the three-day weekend (19th-21st), securing the number one spot at the box office. The cumulative audience reached 331,653.
"Genre Only Romance" is a film depicting the variety-filled private life of a bestselling author whose work and life become tangled after meeting people involved in an unusual romance. Actors Ryu Seung-ryong and newcomer Mujin Seong played the roles of a writer in a slump and a genius aspiring writer, respectively.
The film has received favorable reviews for avoiding sensational settings and portraying human relationships through gentle comedy.
During the same period, the Marvel movie "Eternals" drew 220,516 viewers, ranking second. Since its release on the 3rd, it has recorded a cumulative audience of 2,846,432.
In third place was Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi film "Dune," which attracted 91,343 viewers, with a cumulative audience of 1,344,612.
Additionally, the musical film "Dear Evan Hansen," released on the 17th, and Wes Anderson's "The French Dispatch," released on the 18th, ranked fifth and sixth respectively. The animated films "The Addams Family 2" and "Demon Slayer: Natagumo Mountain Arc" took seventh and eighth places.

The total number of moviegoers over the weekend was 751,617, down by about 160,000 from the previous week's 911,441. Furthermore, 1,265,577 people visited theaters last week (15th-21st).
