[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The 34th memorial service for Hoam Lee Byung-chul, the founder of Samsung Group, will be held on the 19th at his ancestral grave in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. Lee Jae-yong, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics and Hoam's grandson, will not attend the memorial service due to a business trip to the United States.
According to the business community on the 19th, Samsung, along with CJ, Hansol, and other Samsung-affiliated groups, will hold Lee Byung-chul's memorial service near the Hoam Museum of Art in Yongin. In the past, the heads of each group held memorial services at different times, and this year, they are also expected to visit the gravesite at different times in the morning.
From Samsung, former Leeum Museum of Art Director Hong Ra-hee, Hotel Shilla President Lee Boo-jin, and Samsung Welfare Foundation Chairperson Lee Seo-hyun are expected to attend. Vice Chairman Lee also missed the 31st memorial service in 2018 due to an overseas business trip and will not attend this time due to his U.S. trip.
Earlier, after last year's memorial service, Vice Chairman Lee said at a luncheon with presidents of Samsung affiliates, "The company must always contribute to the national economy and provide hope to society, inheriting and developing the founding philosophy of business patriotism taught by Chairman (Lee Kun-hee) and former Chairman (Lee Byung-chul)."
