Song Kang-ho and Lee Byung-hun Captivate Cannes with 'Emergency Declaration' Set for January 2022 Release
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] The film Emergency Declaration is set to take off in January next year.
On the 18th, Showbox announced that Emergency Declaration (directed by Han Jae-rim) is confirmed to be released in January 2022.
Emergency Declaration is a reality-based aviation disaster film depicting the unprecedented disaster situation surrounding a plane that has declared an unconditional emergency landing. Han Jae-rim, who directed The King (2017) and Face (2013), is at the helm.
Director Han realistically portrays those on the ground and in the air facing the disaster together in a desperate situation. In particular, the turbulence sequence recreating the disaster in the air was completed with an unprecedented production using actual airplane bodies and parts, offering the audience an astonishing experience as if they were on board the plane.
Furthermore, the direction that maximizes realism is expected to evoke strong empathy by resonating with our real-life experiences during the pandemic.
Additionally, the acting ensemble of actors Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun, Jeon Do-yeon, Kim Nam-gil, Im Si-wan, Kim So-jin, and Park Hae-joon is also a highlight. The meeting of Song Kang-ho and Lee Byung-hun, who starred in Parasite, the first Korean film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, and the globally popular Netflix series ranked number one worldwide, Squid Game, is highly anticipated.
Emergency Declaration was the only Korean film in the non-competitive section at the 74th Cannes Film Festival. Thierry Fr?maux, the executive director of the Cannes Film Festival, praised it as a “perfect genre film.”
