Haenam-gun Wins Grand Prize at 2021 Wildfire Ground Competition

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, won the grand prize at the 2021 Wildfire Ground Competition hosted by Jeollanam-do and organized by the Wildfire Prevention Association.

According to the county on the 16th, the Wildfire Ground Competition is held to strengthen nighttime wildfire response capabilities, improve equipment usage proficiency, and enhance the operation ability of mechanized wildfire suppression systems.

The competition held on the 11th at Heukseoksan Natural Recreation Forest in Haenam-gun saw about 100 participants from 11 teams across Jeonnam province, with Haenam-gun achieving first place.

The competition simulated a nighttime wildfire occurrence situation, where a team of eight specialized wildfire prevention and suppression members competed by quickly transporting 100ℓ of firefighting water from the starting point to a reservoir 45m in elevation difference and 600m away, using pumps, portable water tanks, pulleys, and distributors to demonstrate suppression capability.

Haenam-gun set a new record by completing the final water supply for wildfire suppression in 15 minutes and 40 seconds.

The grand prize was attributed to the teamwork of the suppression members who conducted thorough equipment management and systematic, repetitive training for the efficient operation of the mechanized wildfire suppression system.

In particular, Haenam-gun has stood out in wildfire prevention activities and suppression capability enhancement by receiving the Best Institution Award for Spring 2021 Wildfire Response and now the grand prize at this Wildfire Ground Competition.

A county official stated, “Keeping in mind that preserving the forest is protecting clean Haenam, we will establish a more perfect initial wildfire suppression posture to prevent large-scale wildfires and take the lead in minimizing human and property damage.”
