Special Urea Fertilizer Supply for Winter Crops Starts from the 15th... Government Says "Sufficient Capacity"
Jeonnam 959t·Gyeongnam 172t·Jeju 679t Allocation
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that it will allocate and supply special contract quantities of urea fertilizer for winter crop cultivation by region starting from the 15th. It is expected that the supply volume will be provided without any disruptions.
The ministry stated that it has decided to allocate the special supply quantity of 1,810 tons for the southern regions, including Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, announced on the 12th, by region. Starting today, 959 tons for Jeonnam, 172 tons for Gyeongnam, and 679 tons for Jeju will be supplied sequentially to the respective regional agricultural cooperatives. The Korea Agricultural Cooperative Federation has agreed to bear part of the increase in raw material costs. This is because the sharp rise in raw material prices has not been reflected in fertilizer prices, increasing the operational burden on the industry.
For regions outside the southern areas, the remaining 370 tons of quantities contracted with producers by regional agricultural cooperatives for November and December will also be supplied sequentially within this year.

Kim Jong-gu, Director of Agricultural Life Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "There is sufficient supply capacity of urea fertilizer necessary for winter crop cultivation, but it is important to appropriately distribute the quantities supplied going forward." He added, "We ask regional agricultural cooperatives to thoroughly manage fertilizer supply and demand by selling only the necessary quantities, considering factors such as the scale of farming per farmer and last year's purchase volume."
