Yongin City Designates 'No Smoking Zones' in Child Protection Areas and Riverside Walkways... Effective from the 28th of Next Month
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Starting from the 28th of next month, smoking will be prohibited in all children's protection zones and riverside walkways in the Yongin area of Gyeonggi Province. Violators will be fined 50,000 KRW.
Yongin City announced on the 8th that it has amended related ordinances and expanded designated no-smoking areas to prevent damage caused by secondhand smoke and to promote citizens' health.
The newly designated no-smoking areas include 240 children's protection zones and 21 riverside walkways within the city.
From the 28th of next month, the city plans to conduct guidance and enforcement targeting smokers in these areas and impose a fine of 50,000 KRW for violations.
To avoid confusion on site, the city will operate an education period until the 27th of next month and actively promote the policy through banners, leaflets, and campaigns.

A city official stated, "Yongin City is continuously striving to prevent harm from secondhand smoke to local residents," and added, "We ask for active cooperation from citizens so that the no-smoking atmosphere spreads throughout the community and a healthy living environment can be established."
