Haeundae Official Receiving Massage and Alcohol Entertainment... Fine Confirmed
[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] A public official responsible for managing Haeundae Beach in Busan was sentenced to a fine for accepting bribes from a facility contractor.
On the 5th, the Supreme Court's 3rd Division (Presiding Justice Ahn Cheolsang) upheld the lower court's ruling that sentenced A, a public official affiliated with the Busan Haeundae District Office, to a fine of 6 million KRW on charges of bribery. Another public official, B, who was also indicted, received a confirmed fine of 2.5 million KRW.
A was prosecuted for receiving 1.6 million KRW in cash and massage parlor expenses from the representative of a company contracted for the removal and installation of facilities at Haeundae Beach between 2016 and 2017. Additionally, A and B were accused of demanding sexual favors from the company representative and having him pay approximately 2 million KRW for alcohol at a nightlife establishment.

The first trial stated, "Although A and others were public officials related to the work, they accepted bribes, damaging trust in the fairness and transparency of their duties," sentencing A to a fine of 6 million KRW and B to 2.5 million KRW. The second trial upheld the first trial's judgment. A filed an appeal, but the Supreme Court dismissed it.
