"Samsung SDI and POSTECH Partner to Train 100 Battery Scholars Over 10 Years"
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Samsung SDI and Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) signed an agreement on the 3rd to operate a battery talent development program starting next year.
Accordingly, a program to cultivate experts in battery materials, cells, and systems will be operated from next year, selecting 100 scholarship students over the next 10 years. Students will be selected mainly from master's and doctoral programs, and will be taught battery-related courses along with leadership development programs. They will visit Samsung SDI's industrial sites and be practically involved in the company's tasks and experiments, conducting field-oriented research.
Selected students will receive tuition for their degree programs and separate personal scholarships, and upon obtaining their degrees, they will have the opportunity to join Samsung SDI. The Secondary Battery Research Center, established by Samsung SDI and POSTECH in 2016, will lead this initiative, with over 25 faculty members participating from six departments including Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, IT Convergence Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and the Graduate School of Steel and Energy Materials. Samsung SDI plans to steadily promote battery talent development with other universities starting with this agreement.

Kim Moo-hwan, President of POSTECH, said, "This agreement will be a stepping stone for our country to take the lead in the next-generation battery industry." Jang Hyuk, Director of Samsung SDI Research Institute, said, "We will support the selected students in various ways, including optimized curricula, collaborative projects, and research and development infrastructure, so that they can grow into core talents leading the future of the battery industry."
