Chinese Surveillance Equipment Disguised as Domestic... Four Military Supply Company Officials Referred
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] Officials from a company that supplied Chinese-made surveillance equipment to the Army while falsely claiming it was domestically produced have been handed over to the prosecution.
The National Police Agency's Serious Crime Investigation Division announced on the 27th that four individuals, including the head of the supplying company, Mr. A, were sent to prosecution on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (fraud) and obstruction of official duties by deception.
They are accused of submitting false documents during the bidding process for the Army's Maritime and Coastal Defense Scientific Project in March last year, indicating they would supply self-produced products, and after being selected as the contractor, supplying Chinese-imported surveillance equipment while falsely claiming it was domestically produced.
They are also charged with supplying 46 units of Chinese-made surveillance equipment worth approximately 1.4 billion KRW to the winning contractor of a separate high-performance CCTV installation project for ports and harbors ordered by the Army in August of the same year, using the same deceptive method.
