[Asia Economy Reporters Heungsun Kim and Minyoung Cha] Samsung Electronics has presented a vision to realize a ‘device experience that perfectly harmonizes with life’ through innovations in its artificial intelligence (AI) platform 'Bixby' and Internet of Things (IoT) platform 'SmartThings.'
On the 27th, Samsung Electronics President and CEO Dongjin Koh emphasized in his keynote speech at the online 'Samsung Developer Conference 2021' (SDC21) that "In the United States, an average of 10 devices are connected and used for household chores, remote work, and remote education," adding, "We must create a device experience that perfectly harmonizes with our lives."
At the conference, Samsung Electronics discussed next-generation technologies enabling innovative customer experiences, including ▲ AI, IoT, and security platform innovations ▲ expansion of screen experiences based on Tizen ▲ and strengthening the Galaxy ecosystem.
The new strategy to implement this focuses on a ‘comprehensive, intuitive, seamless, and easy-to-use connected experience.’ Bixby and SmartThings serve as the central hubs.
Bixby, the voice recognition-based AI platform, is currently applied to over 300 million of Samsung’s latest smartphones and wearable devices. Recently, Bixby succeeded in increasing response speed by up to 35% after voice recognition by utilizing on-device AI.
Connectivity and compatible devices for SmartThings will also be expanded. Samsung Electronics plans to embed the 'SmartThings Hub' software into Samsung products such as TVs and Family Hub refrigerators, enabling these devices to connect directly with other devices.
They also introduced the 'Bixby Home' platform, which strengthens the linkage between Bixby and SmartThings. The newly introduced Bixby Home platform allows multiple connected devices through SmartThings to operate customized functions based on voice commands.
Leading the global TV market, Samsung Electronics introduced new features to expand the TV user experience. Collaborating with Google, they enhanced the convenience of AI-based TV video calls and decided to provide the B2B (business-to-business) service 'Tizen for Business,' which enables remote device control.
Through this service, companies and institutions can conveniently manage various displays, from electronic whiteboards in schools and shopping mall kiosks to screens in subways and airports.
President Koh stated, "For billions of connected devices worldwide to fully realize their potential, they must be designed to fit the way we live," and pledged, "Through industry collaboration, we will create a new era that provides smarter and more connected experiences."
