Women's Clothing and Cosmetics Sales Up... Department Store Fall Sale Revenue Increases Double Digits
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Riding the wave of the 'With Corona' atmosphere, major department stores recorded double-digit growth rates in their regular fall sale performances this year. This is attributed to the resurgence in consumption of items such as women's clothing and cosmetics, which had sluggish sales during the social distancing period caused by COVID-19.
According to the distribution industry on the 18th, Lotte Department Store's sales during the fall regular sale held from the 1st of this month until the day before increased by 16.9% compared to last year's fall sale (September 25 to October 11).
Sales growth rates were high in overseas fashion with a 46.5% increase, home appliances at 38.7%, cosmetics at 14.4%, and miscellaneous women's clothing at 11.8%. In particular, the department store explained that sales of cold-weather clothing such as padded jackets surged on the last day of the sale, the 17th, due to the sudden drop in temperature.
During the same period, Hyundai Department Store's sales increased by 20.2%. Luxury goods sales rose by 47.0%, golf by 52.9%, women's fashion by 44.3%, and home appliances by 44.9%, all showing high growth rates.
Shinsegae Department Store also saw overall sales grow by more than 40%, centered on luxury goods at 46.9% and home appliances at 43.5% during the sale period. Sales of women's fashion (21.4%), men's fashion (14.5%), and daily necessities (14.4%) also increased.
