Gochang Rural Film Festival, Slogan and Poster Unveiled
[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] The ‘Gochang Rural Film Festival’ has unveiled the slogan, official poster, and trailer for the 4th edition of the festival this year, kicking off full-scale promotion of the event.
According to the Gochang Rural Film Festival Organizing Committee on the 15th, the slogan for the ‘4th Gochang Rural Film Festival,’ which opens on the 5th of next month, has been set as ‘Gochang, Embracing Rural Films.’
The official poster incorporates the county’s specialty product, green barley, and the colors of Gochang, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, symbolizing the festival’s intention to comfort audiences weary from COVID-19 and daily life through film.
The official trailer, directed by Yang Ikjun, who gained attention at prestigious film festivals with the movie ‘Ddongpari,’ is filled with emotion and laughter through the perspective of filmmakers in rural areas.
Marking its 4th year, the Gochang Rural Film Festival will be held over three days starting from the 5th of next month throughout the county, featuring diverse programs suited to the COVID-19 situation such as drive-in cinema where films are watched from cars, short and feature film production contests, and screenings of award-winning works.
In particular, the Korean Feature Competition, introduced for the first time this year, draws attention with works that capture various perspectives on rural life.
Through the first round of judging, six films were selected: ‘Twelve Years Old’ directed by Park Sungjin, ‘Kim Minyoung of the Report Card’ directed by Lee Jaeun and Lim Jiseon, ‘Influenza’ directed by Hwang Junho, ‘The First Child’ directed by Heo Jeongjae, ‘Show Me the Ghost’ directed by Kim Eungyeong, and ‘Fighter’ directed by Yoon Jaeho.
These films will be screened during the festival to meet audiences, and outstanding works will be awarded grand prizes, director awards, and audience awards.
Another competitive program, the ‘3-Minute Short Form,’ is also gaining attention.
This is a film production program featuring short-form narrative films that showcase the regional characteristics and rural vitality of Gochang, a city of agricultural life culture, in a three-minute format.
Four films capturing Gochang’s visual aesthetics were finally selected through judging, and the winners will be announced on the opening day.
Jin Giyoung, chairman of the Gochang Rural Film Festival Organizing Committee, said, “I hope many people will join in the simple happiness of walking along the autumn atmosphere and watching meaningful films together with the Gochang Rural Film Festival.”
Jo Usam, director of the Rural Food Department, said, “The competitive works presented at this year’s Gochang Rural Film Festival will be a great opportunity to see lively storytelling works that embrace Gochang and rural life,” adding, “I hope many people visit the Gochang Rural Film Festival to experience various works.”
